“Students as young as 4 will be able to immerse themselves in Spanish and English at five more San Jose schools starting this academic year. The immersion program that teaches students to read, write and communicate in both English and Spanish has been expanded to the San Jose Unified School District’s transitional kindergarten classes…The program “has become very popular as our parents understand the opportunities available to individuals who are fully literate in more than one language,” said Margaret Petkiewicz, the school district’s manager of elementary bilingual programs and English learner services.”(more)
