“Students in Jacksonville are part of a growing language learning program that is now celebrating its 25th year. The two-way dual language program teaches native English speakers Spanish and native Spanish speakers English…Fred Douglas Elementary School principal Amber Penn said…the goal of the program is to develop a student body that is proficient in both languages, making them more prepared for a global economy. She adds that the success of the program is evident in the number of students using their bilingual skills once they graduate from the district. “Students that originally started in the program are in college. Some are majoring in Spanish. Some are using their bilingual skills to become nurses, doctors, lawyers, those type of professions.””(more)
