“New imaging research finds the area of the brain associated with impulsivity is activated in obese children when introduced to food smells. This same brain region is also associated with the development of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The understanding that obesity is similar to disorders of the brain and behavior may lead to new approaches to treat and care for the condition, say the researchers…Childhood obesity has been called an emerging health crisis as in the United States, nearly 12.7 million children are obese.
