“Mandarin learning is reportedly seeing a marked increase in popularity in the UK. Observers suggest the interest has been driven, in part, by the British government and its desire to maintain a competitive edge in business and industry. The UK’s Department for Education made an announcement earlier this year that it will invest 10 million pounds into a Mandarin excellence programme and by the year 2020 the programme will see at least 5,000 pupils across England using the Chinese language fluently.”(more)
