“SALT LAKE CITY — It may not be typical for a sixth-grader to want to pursue a career in teaching science or biochemistry, but Mary Maestas believes she has found an early passion. The 11-year old is one of about 250 second- to sixth-grade students at Rose Park Elementary School involved in a specialized curriculum aimed at introducing them to the attributes of science, technology, engineering and math education. “We have leaned how to make peppermint hand scrubs and many other makeup items,” she said. Among the things she found most interesting was learning how to create the items from household components.”(more)
