“The enormous challenges of our day demand an education system that is preparing our young people to think openly and creatively, a system that’s preparing them to see possibilities where there were none before. To some, the most straightforward solution to the challenge is a relentless focus on the STEM disciplines – science, technology, engineering and math. By some estimates, federal funding for STEM education initiatives, and there are dozens, is in the billions. Funding for arts education, meanwhile, is a mere fraction of that.
