The Des Moines Regiter – Mackenzie Ryan

“Summer reading always brings up a few favorite memories of mine, including the time one of my brothers discovered the comic book collection at our local library. Did we strike gold that year! Between my two brothers and my mom, the four of us could check out a huge stack at one time. After each library trip, we spent whole afternoons sprawled out on the living room floor, basking in air conditioning and breezing through stories of Batman and X-Men. And occasionally, goading each other about what happened next. It’s the kind of memory that summers are made for. And when I had the chance, I couldn’t help but ask the experts at the Iowa Reading Research Center about their own favorite memories of reading with their kids. Each shared an activities they loved doing with their families — including some that they still recall, years later, with affection.”(more)
