“Huggins said each of these school districts has made summer programs part of its “academic bottom line” because – despite the expense of the programs – they can’t afford to ignore summer. Sixty-six percent of teachers say it takes at least three to four weeks to reteach skills at the beginning of a new school year, according to a survey of 500 teachers by the National Summer Learning Association.”(more)
