“Each September, Sonia Corlew’s middle school class at Sycamore Canyon School in Newbury Park, California, reads Billy Collins’ poem “The Names” as a way to talk about the anniversary of 9/11. While the 8th grade English teacher asks students to analyze and annotate the piece — which includes the names of casualties from the attacks — while even discussing poetic devices, her main reason for having them discuss the poem is to learn about the day.” (more)
