Forbes – Robert J. Szczerba

“Technology innovation is making education for the blind and visually impaired better, cheaper, and more seamlessly integrated into both traditional classroom and online settings. We examined the extensive technology listings from several organizations, including the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) and came up with a sampling of the more innovative and interesting educational products they discussed: TripleTalk USB Mini Speech Synthesizer: Hardware text-to-speech (TTS) synthesizers convert written text into electronic speech. The TripleTalk Mini, from Access Solutions, connects via a USB port and converts standard ASCII text into audible English or Spanish. The volume is adjustable through a slider on the unit itself, or through the accompanying software. In addition to offering 11 distinct voices, it can be tailored to the user’s preferences in speed, pitch, and tone.”(more)
