New York’s public, charter and private schools collectively educate more than 1.1 million children, with about 70,000 in each grade from kindergarten through 12th. (If the edict were implemented, it would be interesting to see if private schools would choose to participate. On the one hand, it would mean an extra year of tuition for them.
