“Bilingualism is good for mental health and education, but explaining this can be tricky. Especially in Great Britain, where English is, obviously, the national language. English is pretty much a universally spoken language, so it would seem redundant to go through the effort of learning a new language if one speaks the former. In the British education system, this translates in a lack of extra languages being taught in primary schools. Secondary schools usually do include another language in their programs, but the courses in foreign languages are in most cases limited to one.”(more)
