“Public education has no shortage of inefficiencies in need of reform. One practice, however, stands out for its especially imprudent allocation of limited resources: awarding pay raises to teachers simply for earning a master’s degree. . . . With so many states confronting painful budget choices, teacher pay structures no longer are politically untouchable. Wednesday, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan told the American Enterprise Institute that master’s degree bonuses clearly are not a productive use of tax money.”(more)
