“The higher bar used by NAEP has both fans and critics. . . . It’s largely a matter of opinion over what you think ought to be expected of a proficient child. . . . Why aren’t kids, both in MPS and beyond, doing better in math? ‘Quite frankly, they don’t see any value in what they’re studying,’ said Kranendonk. Educators needs to work harder to get kids and parents to see value in it, not just in terms of specific skills but ‘for you to fully participate in life.'”(more)
