” Between 2000 and 2009 real expenditure on Australian schools increased by 44 per cent. But in that same time, Australia’s education performance went backwards. We now lag behind the East Asian school systems that make up four of the top five placings in international rankings. In a speech tonight, Opposition Education spokesman Christopher Pyne argued that too much money has been wasted on reducing class sizes and that instead there should be more focus on the quality of teaching.” (more)
