“One in five U.S. residents speak a foreign language at home, and this can cause a debate in many families. Many parents believe their children should only focus on one language to improve their child’s chance for success. However, studies show that while a bilingual child may make errors learning both languages, they have many learning advantages in the future…Some parents worry that learning two languages at once could hurt their child’s language skills. But pathologists at Loyola Rehabilitation Services said it’s actually beneficial. “It increases the mental flexibility. It allows children to multi-task better. It builds cognitive awareness.
