“Dr. Cathery Yeh believes people began distancing themselves from math when they started associating math with memorization. She taught elementary school in Los Angeles and currently teaches graduate education students at Chapman University. “When I ask anybody to close their eyes and think about what math means, they’ll often say the timed test that they started taking in third grade,” says Yeh. “It was really around speed and doing a lot of problems repeatedly.”” (more)
