“A teacher merit-pay bill won its first favorable vote in the Senate education committee today, with its sponsor saying, “We’re not here to punish teachers.” The bill, SB 736, overhauls how teachers are evaluated and paid, relying in large part on student growth on standardized tests to judge instructional quality.
