“The share of families who enrolled their 3- and 4-year-olds in preschool is remarkably similar among three different groups of U.S. families, the Census Bureau reported this week. Among white non-Hispanic 3- and 4-year-olds, 58 percent were enrolled in preschool in fall 2014, the bureau said. Among U.S.-born preschoolers whose parents immigrated to the U.S., the preschool enrollment rate was 54 percent. And among black preschoolers, it was 58 percent, the bureau reported. Latino 3- and 4-year-olds were less likely to be enrolled in preschool, however. Only 46 percent were. The information comes from a large survey the Census Bureau conducts each October to check on school enrollment. The survey has been given annually since 1947. Overall, 43 percent of U.S. 3-year-olds and 66 percent of 4-year-olds attended preschool at least part time in fall 2014, the survey found.”(more)
