“Recently, congressional education leaders met to fine-tune the House and Senate bills for K-12 educational reform and as a result, arts education now will be incorporated back into schools nationwide. I heartily applaud the advocacy of all of those who have worked tirelessly in support of arts education, especially U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore., who championed this major breakthrough in arts education when she offered an amendment to integrate the arts into the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs, the equational core for grades K-12. As a long-time advocate for arts education, I was thrilled to learn that the amendment not only was approved, but approved unanimously. This pivotal amendment reestablishes, as well as advances the status of the arts nationwide, impacting 100,000 schools, 3 million teachers and 50 million students in grades K-12.”(more)
