“The children’s section in the Ferndale Area District Library has continued to grow over the past few years as it tries to encourage children to dive into a good book or enjoy one of numerous children’s programs. Now, the library staff is looking to push the children’s learning further with the introduction of international storytimes. Youth Services Librarian Ashley Lehman started researching the program after several requests from local parents for a storytime in Spanish…After a successful pilot run with Spanish, in which children enjoyed bilingual books along with bilingual songs, Lehman said she decided to expand the program to try to teach children other new languages…Library Executive Director Jessica Keyser said…“There are many proven benefits of children being exposed to a different language, such as it helps with their overall cognitive and verbal development.””(more)
