The Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel – Alan J. Borsuk
“A year ago in this space, I complained that when I make up a list of what was new on the education scene, it was too boring. I suggested that Wisconsin education was suffering from a serious case of the blahs. I still think there are some blah problems, but, thanks in large part to the new state budget, the list of things to watch this year is not boring. So what’s new? Start with the law giving Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele the power to name an education commissioner who will take away a small number of low-performing schools from Milwaukee Public Schools and turn them over to other operators. Schools restarted this way won’t open until a year from now, but the action is expected to heat up soon, starting with naming a commissioner. I don’t have a clue how this will shake out, but it’s a big deal, and it will definitely not be boring.”(more)
