“Later, as I thought about Javari and his classmates, I thought about how growing plants and raising children have a lot in common. It’s not enough to be involved only at the start. You can’t just go out and plant on the first nice days of spring and then passively let things drift. Gardens need continuing care. And you can’t bring a child into the world and maximize the chances of good results without constructive, involved and consistent parenting. The early stages are important. Take care of your young plant — give it nutrition, put it in good settings, keep a close eye on it. And thus for raising children. The early years can and should be a time when a child is stimulated and shaped by good influences. A stable and sweet environment can make a huge difference.”(more)
