“Earlier in August, President Trump signed an executive memorandum to extend expiring student loan relief. But the memorandum’s wording was vague, and it provided borrowers with little insight about their rights, options, or obligations. Trump issued the executive memorandum after Congress was unable to reach a compromise on extending expiring student loan relief and other economic assistance programs. Congress had suspended all payments, interest, and collections on government-held federal student loans through September 30, 2020 under the CARES Act. The President’s action extends this suspension to December 31, 2020.” (more)
