“Michael Gove, the schools secretary, has denied that students would be discouraged from applying to university after the government allowed higher education institutions to charge up to £9,000 a year in tuition fees. There was “no evidence” that the introduction of tuition fees in 2006 had put off poor students, he told the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. ‘I believe that [higher fees] won’t put off students. They will make a rational decision on the benefits that accrue to them [from going to university].'”(more)
